Bullet Train Tan Dar

Tan Sao (Palm-Up Hand, Upright Hand) is an amazingly versatile technique, with over 20 distinct applications documented by Grandmaster Moy Tung, and myriad variations within and between these.

When a strike is done at the same time, it may be a Tan Dar, e.g. the application depicted in this photo. In this moment, the guy on the right is using Right-hand Tan Sao to bulldoze forward, clearing the centerline and pinning/controlling the other person’s striking left hand.

Notice how the Tan Sao elbow is low and inside, in front of the body. His right hand is moving on center toward the other person’s head. Both hands, blocking or striking, are well-positioned to strike or block repeatedly and simultaneously, one hand helping the other. Ving Tsun trains practitioners to stand strong on the feet, able to deliver powerful blows from the horse.
