Attack; Counter; Reset. Drilling Poi Jeang & Kwan Sao in Ving Tsun (wing chun) Chi Sao

In Ving Tsun (wing chun) Kung Fu and the Chi Sao training system, there are Sihing (senior student) and Sidai (junior student) roles, which yield more productive training for both exercise partners.

In this technique drilling exercise, the Sihing initiates or ‘attacks’, and the Sidai responds and defends, within the boundaries and ‘rules’ of the exercise. The Sihing does a Poi Jeang ‘attack’; Sidai counters with Kwan Sao; Sihing resets to Luk Sao, rolls hands and repeats.

A goal of the exercise is to do the techniques relaxed and with good form, to improve efficiency and effectiveness. Chi Sao is not sparring or fighting; it’s an exercise that allows students to train, study and develop their Kung Fu knowledge, ability and skill to a higher level.
