Centuries of Kung Fu in Fredericksburg, Virginia
Seventeen Moy Tung-lineage Sifus and DaiSihings - more than 400 years of collective experience - gathered last weekend to observe the 3rd anniversary of Kung Fu Fxbg, a MY3 Moy Tung Athletic Association (MTAA) branch school teaching the Ving Tsun (wing chun) system in Fredericksburg, Va.
Over the course of the long weekend, in-person or via live video, Sifus and students from schools in other Virginia cities participated in the Fxbg workshop (Richmond, Chesterfield, Henrico West End and Virginia Beach), as well as from other states (Iowa, Missouri, Maryland, Austin, Houston and Milwaukee).
It was a good time and highly educational for the regular students who attended the workshop, but the really remarkable thing was the presence of Grandmaster Moy Tung on Saturday, with well over a dozen MY3 and MY4 generation Sifus and DaiSihings.
The regular students got to touch senior hands, but, as he usually does, Grandmaster Moy Tung also made a point of dividing the classroom into groups based on generations and experience levels. This meant the MY3 generation Sifus and DaiSihings got to train together, with input from Moy Tung.
After training on Saturday, we met in our reserved private room at Castiglia’s Italian restaurant for dinner, drinks and socializing with Kung Fu family. People, especially Sifus, have busy lives, and not everyone present gets to see everyone regularly, so there was catching up, too. Every year, the roots grow deeper, and the branches grow stronger.
