Kung Fu Fxbg & Funland Workshop Report

Last weekend, Grandmaster Moy Tung and MY3 & MY4 Sifus from Richmond, Christiansburg, Austin, Georgetown and Milwaukee led parts of the 4-day Kung Fu Fxbg workshop, in-person and virtually. Students in Fxbg and the participating locations experienced the same Ving Tsun (wing chun) system, as passed on by different sifus in the same lineage under Grandmaster Moy Tung, SSA disciple of Grandmaster Moy Yat, top student of the now almost-legendary Yip Man (Ip Man).

Chum Kiu basics (which come from Siu Nim Tao) were a major part of the three days of training on Friday, Sunday and Monday. Hours were devoted to horse shifting and stepping drills with hand techniques. A lot of Chum Kiu was played, as well as Siu Nim Do, and, of course, Siu Nim Tao. Two-person exercises involved stance and shifting variations highlighting principles developed in Chum Kiu.

Grandmaster Moy Tung and the sifus in his lineage supervised the training sessions, offered details and insights, and gave demonstrations. A ton of Kung Fu was dropped on Fredericksburg. Sifu said for Chum Kiu to be a focus for the workshop guys for the next 3-4 months, and they’ve got their work cut out for them.

Saturday is usually the main training day at Moy Tung workshops, but at this one it was for the kids, and we went to the Fredericksburg Funland, staying past 930p. Many of the local guys have families, and brought them. Inside and out, that place is filled with fun stuff to do for kids and adults. We tried different stuff, and everyone had their favorite activities. The laser tag and ropes/climbing courses especially tested physical and mental Kung Fu skills.
